ABSTRACT

Severe tooth wear is described as the substantial loss of tooth structure, with dentin exposure and significant loss of equal to or more than 1/3 of the clinical crown. The use of resin composite materials allows the clinician to be more conservative, due to its minimally invasive application. In addition to this, they are relatively inexpensive, provide good general aesthetics, as well as good performance and ease of repair. The objective of this systematic literature review is to collect information available in the literature regarding the clinical performance of adhesive restorations with composite resin in cases of patients with severe wear and increase in the vertical dimension as a rehabilitation objective. Articles between the years 2000 and 2022 were analyzed, selecting four databases (Pubmed, Scopus, Scielo and Web of Science). To identify the descriptors, the Medical subject headings (Mesh) were used: Tooth Wear, Composite Restorations, Resin and Oral Rehabilitation. No language, country of origin, author or place of publication restrictions where the study was conducted were applied. As a result of the search, 71 articles were obtained, of which 5 were selected that met the eligibility criteria to be considered in the systematic literature review. An average success rate between 89.4 % - 100 % was found in a total average of 5.2 years of follow-up. It can be concluded, to the best of our knowledge in the available scientific literature, that the treatment of adhesive restorations with composite resins in patients with severe wear is recommendable, focused on a short-medium term period (3-5 years), being a Inexpensive and minimally invasive treatment option.

ABSTRACT

Systemic autoinflammatory diseases are a group of rare diseases only recently described but rapidly growing in importance in the clinical setting. They are characterized by innate immunity impairment, i.e., absence of autoreactive T lymphocytes or autoantibodies, and respond to individual cytokine blockade. The objective of this review was to analyze the immunophysiological basis of these diseases and to briefly describe each of them along with their most relevant clinical characteristics.

ABSTRACT

Rheumatic diseases are very prevalent, affecting about 7 million people in North America; they affect the musculoskeletal system, often with systemic involvement and potential for serious consequences and limitation on quality of life. Clinical treatment is usually long-term and includes drugs that are considered either simple or complex and are occasionally unknown to many health professionals who do not know how to manage these patients in emergency units and surgical wards. Thus, it is important for clinicians, surgeons and anesthesiologists who are involved with rheumatic patients undergoing surgery to know the basic principles of therapy and perioperative management. This study aims to do a review of the perioperative management of the most commonly used drugs in rheumatologic patients. Manuscripts used in this review were identified by surveying MEDLINE, LILACS, EMBASE, and COCHRANE databases and included studies containing i) the perioperative management of commonly used drugs in patients with rheumatic diseases: and ii) rheumatic diseases. They are didactically discussed according to the mechanism of action and pharmacokinetics; and perioperative management. In total, 259 articles related to the topic were identified. Every medical professional should be aware of the types of drugs that are appropriate for continuous use and should know the various effects of these drugs before indicating surgery or assisting a rheumatic patient postoperatively. This information could prevent possible complications that could affect a wide range of patients.

ABSTRACT

Among the innovations for the treatment of type 1 diabetes, islet transplantation is a less invasive method of treatment, although it is still in development. One of the greatest barriers to this technique is the low number of pancreas donors and the low number of pancreases that are available for transplantation. Rodent models have been chosen in most studies of islet rejection and type 1 diabetes prevention to evaluate the quality and function of isolated human islets and to identify alternative solutions to the problem of islet scarcity. The purpose of this study is to conduct a review of islet xenotransplantation experiments from humans to rodents, to organize and analyze the parameters of these experiments, to describe trends in experimental modeling and to assess the viability of this procedure. In this study, we reviewed recently published research regarding islet xenotransplantation from humans to rodents, and we summarized the findings and organized the relevant data. The included studies were recent reports that involved xenotransplantation using human islets in a rodent model. We excluded the studies that related to isotransplantation, autotransplantation and allotransplantation. A total of 34 studies that related to xenotransplantation were selected for review based on their relevance and current data. Advances in the use of different graft sites may overcome autoimmunity and rejection after transplantation, which may solve the problem of the scarcity of islet donors in patients with type 1 diabetes.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Pesticide residues, especially in fruit and vegetsble production, raise worries about the consumers' health and the workers who need to return to the treated crops with these pesticides. The objective of this work was to study the occurence and behavior of dislodgeable residues of deltamethrin pyrethroid inseticide, applied in different types of formulations on leaves of a staked cucumber crop as a starting point for occupation exposure studies. The treatments were: (a)control; (b)three applications of 30 mL Decis 25 EC.100 L-1 water; (d) three applications of 3.75 mL Decis 200 CS.100 L-1 water. All decis treatments consisted of 0.75 g a.i deltamethrin 100L-1 water. Samples were taken (-1); zero; 1; 3; 5; 7 and 14 days after the last application. The analytical method consisted of the extraction of deltamethrin residues with Sur-ten solution, clean-up of the extracts by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), with elution made with a mixture of ethyl acetate/cyclohexane. The quantitative determination was done by gas chromatograph, using electron capture detector. The dislodgeable residues of deltamethrin were righerin CS as compared to the both EC's (4-20 times), with hal-life values of 2.8; 3.8 and 32.2 days, respectively for the formulation ma pose higher danger to workers, it is emphazide the need of the proper use of individual protection equipament when applying thse chemicals or returning to treated areas to perform other crop tasks...

ABSTRACT

A survey was held in some regions in the state of São Paulo aiming at evaluating safety conditions in used and brand new tractors. 487 tractors in use in 270 farms in the state of São Paulo were analyzed together with 31 brand new ones displayed in shops and fairs. The following were checked: the driver's seat, its accessibility, position of controls, protection against the active parts of the engine, warning signs disposal and consonance to the national and international safety regulations for highways driving. The final result showed that while the used tractors offer no comfort or security to the driver, the brand new ones seem to fulfill the requirements, mainly those related to the driver's seat and the protection of the engine active parts.

ABSTRACT

The biochemical degradation pathway of pesticides under field conditions can yield metabolites that require a more complete toxicological evaluation once they might be so or even more toxic than the parent compounds. The objective of this study was to evaluate the metabolism of the inseticide/acaricide carbosulfan to carbofuran and to 3-hydroxy-carbofuran, based on their residues in orange leaves. Two field experiments were carried out, both with the following treatments: a - control; b - one application of 10 g of carbosulfan . 100 L-1 of water; c - one application with twice the amount applied in treatment b; d - four applications with the same amount applied in treatment b. Samples were taken at (-1), zero, 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after the last or unique application. The quantitative determinations were done by by gas chromatography, using a nitrogen-phosphorus detector. The carbosulfan metabolism to carbofuran was fast and both had low persistence in the leaves (3 days). The same trend was observed for the carbofuran metabolism to 3-hydroxy-carbofuran, which was produced in very low amount and rapidly dissipated

ABSTRACT

Insecticides are used for stored cereal protection against insect attack and the occurrence of their residues needs to be evaluated not only in grain but also in the processed products. This study evaluates the residue degradation/persistence of the organophosphorous insecticide pirimiphos-methyl in corn and popcorn grains and in some of their processed products such as bran, hominy and corn flour from corn and popped popcorn. Grains were treated with pirimiphos-methyl at the rate of 12 mg.kg-1 (a.i.). Samples were taken and analyzed at zero, 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240 days after treatment. The analytical method consisted of residue extraction with acetone, clean-up partition with acetonitrile/hexane and silica gel column chromatography eluted with a mixture of hexane + acetone. Quantitative measurements were made by gas chromatography, using flame photometric detector (GLC/FPD). The limits of quantitation (LOQs) were: corn grain, hominy and popped popcorn 0.05 mg.kg-1; bran, corn flour and popcorn grain 0.1 mg.kg-1. Pirimiphos-methyl residues were not persistent in either types of grains or in their processed products. At the end of sampling period (240 days), 5 to 8-fold less residues were found in corn bran and popcorn. Hominy and corn flour showed low levels of contamination. Higher residue concentrations in corn bran than in grains are related to the higher oil content in that processed product
